Ash and Misty found themselves on the way to Pewter City after such a long time since being there.
Having competed in the Kalos League and returned home, Ash Ketchum and Misty were on their way to visit Brock. Having taken over his family’s gym again after coming back, Ash and Misty planned on visiting him to see if he would be willing to go around Kanto with them one last time while Ash Re-challenged the Indigo Plateau. Having trained with his Pokémon hard, Ash was sure they could win.
Many things had changed since he had returned home though, and Misty was one of them.
Having grown taller, Misty had also changed her outfit and was sporting a new hairstyle. Now looking like a teenager she wore a white and blue swimsuit with a jacket as well a pair of sandals.
Looking at her, Ash hardly believed how much she had grown, but a Pokémon battle the two had showed that Ash and Pikachu were still a match for the Cerulean Gym Leader.
“Gah, I can’t believe I lost…” Misty complained, looking at a snickering Ash. The Kanto native had beaten his old friend with two Pokémon remaining during a full battle. “You’ve gotten better since we last met.”
“Same to you, but you know I can always count on Pikachu to win, right buddy?”
“Pika pika!” Pikachu replied happily. Ash smiled as he held his trusted partner. Misty smiled as he kept playing with his trusted partner.
“Well I’m glad some things never changed. Still it’s taking longer than I imagined for us to reach Brock.”
“We are just getting to Viridian city, we still have the forest right after too.”
“Yeah, but maybe we should stop for a bit in Viridian, maybe eat some lunch?”
“Sounds like a great plan to me.” Ash replied happily.
Both of them making a pitstop, they were on their way towards the town square when Misty noticed something.
“Hey Ash, let’s stop at this stand for a bit. They have some awesome looking charms.”
“Alright. I’d be happy to see.” Ash said as he and Misty inspected the charms, Pikachu looking at some of them before a woman came up front.
“Hello there, would anyone like to buy a cha-Ash? Misty?”
Looking, the duo saw their old witch friend from Johto Lily. The Pokémon Magician’s Murkrow came out and perched itself on her shoulder. A wide smile came to Ash’s face.
“Lily, is that you?”
“Why it certainly is.” She replied. “I didn’t expect to see either of you here.”
“We could say the same, how’ve you been?”
“Pretty well. My charmed charms are selling like hotcakes.” Lily said, holding up a wad of Poke-Dollars. “Perhaps you two would like some?”
“Sure, but what do you mean by charmed? Are they lucky or something?”
“Moreso they cause transformation, like what Ash went through the last time we met.”
“Really?” Ash asked, recalling his temporary transformation into a Pikachu. While at first it caught him off guard, after some time he enjoyed it, especially when he found out the effects were temporary. “How long do these last?”
“They vary. To be honest sometimes it’s as short as an hour or as long as several weeks, maybe longer. From time to time I have to use a Pokémon language spell just to make sure a random Pokémon who follows me isn’t an old customer. I’m lucky I say up front all sales are final.”
“Wow, well will you be here long?” Misty questioned as she inspected the spellcaster’s wares, trying to find a water-type
“Sure, I have to stay local to help out my buyers just in case.” Lily
“Then we’ll buy a couple.” Ash said as he picked up two Rapidash charms. Inspecting them, he tried one on. “How much are these worth?”
“20 Poke-Dollars each.”
“Sounds good. I’ll buy them.” Ash said, handing one to Misty. After a moment, Misty tried hers on as well.
“These do look really great.”
“Yeah, but how do we make them work?” Ash asked. Emily smiled knowingly before pointing to the charm.
“Just put your hand over the charm and focus. It should initiate the change. To undo it, just come back to me. By the way the chain the charm is connected to is fireproofed, so don’t worry about losing it.”
“Thanks Lily. Pikachu, you stay with her and Murkrow for now, we’ll be back before too long.”
“Pika.” Pikachu replied with an affirmative tone. Waving, he, Lily and Murkrow bade Ash and Misty farewell.
“We’ll see you two later.” Lily replied, “Have fun!”
“We will!” Ash said as he and Misty waved back. Once the two of them got to an open field, Ash decided it was time to test his out. “So Misty, you ready to see if these charms really do work?”
“I am, but I’m kind of worried. I just don’t know how this will work out.”
“After last time I know it’ll be easy. You’ll hardly feel anything.” Ash promised. “Just trust me on this.”
Nodding, Misty did trust Ash and watched as his necklace took effect. The first thing she saw was the long, cream colored horn protrude from his forehead, followed by him going onto all fours and sprouting a flaming tail. His arms and legs shifted next, as did his body, becoming more equine in shape and sprouting a flaming mane. Ash managed to shake off his hat.
As he did his face elongated, his mouth and nose becoming a horse’s snout as he went through the final changes of becoming the unicorn-like Pokémon. His natural hairstyle manifested itself in the fiery flaming mane.
Once Misty saw this, she noticed Ash looking at himself, awed and trotting in place for a bit before standing happily in place. Misty brushed her hand thrugh his fire. The fact that it didn’t burn was a sign that he trusted her.
With a smile, Misty decided to try the change herself. Taking off her jacket and sandals, she used the necklace. She fell on all fours too, but unlike Ash the change started with her legs and then her body. Once the change went on her mane appeared, then her hair turned to fire. Instead of burning, it instead felt slightly warm, a moment later her horn grew and she developed a Rapidash’s tail. The last change was to her face, turning her into a Rapidash.
Looking at Ash, she spoke.
“Ash, can you understand me?”
“I can, this is kind of cool, isn’t it?” Ash asked, walking around. “I never expected it to be so fun.”
“Me neither, but we’ve only been Rapidashes for a couple minutes. Maybe we should test them a bit.”
“Good idea.” Ash said, “How about we do a race? First one to Viridian forest and back wins.”
“You’re on!” Misty replied with a confident snort, her blue eyes meeting his brown ones. She got into place before smirking “On your mark…”
“Get set….”
“GO!”
With both of them shouting, Ash and Misty began their race, dashing off at high speed and laughing, enjoying their transformation while they could. Though it would be a while before they changed back, they wouldn’t have any problem with their current situation. Their only concern was the race and having fun.

Facing off against a genetic abomination intent on destroying the world, stopping the schemes of a madman who wished to control time, stopping a confrontation between several incredibly powerful legendary Pokémon, all of these were tasks Ash Ketchum had pulled off in the past, and despite that? He found his current task more daunting than them all!
He and Pikachu found themselves sitting on a poolside chair in the chlorine-scented main hall of the Cerulean City gym. Having just left the two boys to get some water from the fridge was their fiery redheaded friend Misty, and the object of Ash’s most difficult mission yet.

Heeheehee, took you long enough to get here!” Misty chuckled as her friend finally arrived at her gym, closing the door behind him and locking it; isolating the two from the cold world outside. Winter had come to Kanto and it was snowing and miserable, to Misty at least. She was a water trainer so it was natural to hate the time of year when water froze. She dealt with it by hiding out in her gym and leaving the heat on high so it would be nice and pleasant to swim in all year.
“Not my fault Charizard can’t fly too well in a storm,” Ash mumbled, shaking snow off his coat and tossing it onto a nearby hangar.
